How plug-in solar works in Colorado

Conceptual overview tied to HB26-1007. Not a wiring manual.

  1. Panels on a balcony, patio, or railing make DC power.
  2. A microinverter makes AC that matches the house.
  3. A cord plugs into a receptacle on your side of the meter.
  4. You use that power first. Export credit is usually not part of the deal for this device class.

Colorado-specific limits

  • Max 1,920 W to the grid; one device per wall outlet per address.
  • Anti-islanding required so the kit cannot energize the grid in an outage.
  • Follow fire code and local building rules that pertain to health and safety.
  • HOAs may require reasonable securing on limited common element balconies.
